Abstract

Many studies on the effect of alkaline-ionized water intake were undergone in animal models ofType I and II diabetes mellitus models. Although these studies showed the effective results of alkaline-ionized water intake in animals, there were not enough clinical studies on human. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of alkaline-ionized water intake in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. The total of 5 males in-patients of HanSeo University Hospital participated in the study. The mean age of these participants was 61.20(10.16) years old. Alkaline-ionized water was collected from the commercial alkaline-ionized water unit (Model# AK-6000, AK-3000, NEXUS Inc.), and 2000 ml of alkaline-ionized water, mean pH level of alkaline-ionized water was 9.90(0.04) and mean ORP level was -168.64(2.14) mV, were given to the participants daily for two weeks. Quantity of alkaline-ionized water intake and fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels were measured daily and statistics were performed. The results showed that FBS levels in patients of alkaline-ionized water intake were generally decreased after taking 1440.00(582.06) ml of alkaline-ionized water daily. This finding suggests that alkaline-ionized water intake may also have the effect on controlling FBS level in type II diabetes mellitus in human. However, the mechanism remains unclear.
